Human Nature

Digital image series

Emotion is measured against the human scale: while it is smaller than the body, a person remains human; when it grows larger, they become something else.

Methods
Typismus · Metatypismus · Two triptychs

A feeling stays inside a person as long as it is smaller than the person. Once it grows larger than the one who carries it, the human turns into something else.

The series measures emotions against the human scale, at two levels: the individual and the group. Nothing inside the boxes is ever shown. What the feeling did, and what it looked like when it entered, is assembled by the viewer.

The boxes are Typismus. The feeling itself gets a circle, and that circle is already Metatypismus, the layer for what has no body.

Two triptychs so far. The series continues: greed, desire, shame.

Fear, 2026, triptych, 1:1

Fear

Nine person-boxes stand in a ring around a single labeled circle: fear. In the first image fear is small, held at the centre by the people surrounding it. In the second it has grown, and its edge runs straight through the middle of every body. In the third it encloses them all and has become larger than any of them.

Who these people are, how old they are, what their fear looks like, is never said. The sequence 1 → 2 → 3 carries the whole meaning.

Hunger, 2026, triptych, 1:1

Hunger

Hunger at ordinary size leaves a person a person. Once hunger grows larger than the one carrying it, the human becomes an animal. The shift happens entirely in the tyups. Nothing else on the canvas changes. Where Fear works on a group, Hunger stays with a single body, and the label on the person changes only in the last frame.
